Moana is the daughter of the chief 'Te Kā Au Roa' who is also known as Te Fiti. Te Kā Au Roa's people are being threatened by the evil 'Nui Le'e who wants to steal their magic fishhooks which can catch all spirits. The Nui Le'e warrior is about to kill Moana but her father saves her life. From then on Moana decides to become a great sailor and goes on a journey with her supernatural mentor Maui, who spends his days fishing for the invaders, trading fishhooks with its owner, Tamatoa. She meets a Lalotai crab named Tamatoa who was once a demigod and convinces him to sail with her.
